Warhammer Online New Class being added Page 1

Warhammer Online new class planned
n a State of the Game address last week, Mythic Entertainment general manager Mark Jacobs revealed that a whole mess of updates is on its way to Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning this fall. Of note, the company head said that it would be reintroducing two playable classes--the Dark Elf Black Guard and the Empire Knight of the Blazing Sun--that were cut from the final version of the game shortly before its September launch due to quality concerns.

The two heavy fighters were half of the four total classes cut from the game, with the other two being the Dwarven Hammerer and Greenskin Choppa. In an interview with Eurogamer today, Jacobs confirmed that one of the two outstanding classes will also return to the game in the not-too-distant future, and one most likely will not.

"Well, one of them we hope to put back in," said Jacobs. "I can't tell you which yet, that's a surprise. We're probably going to be replacing one and putting in another class in its place. But we'll be talking about that in a few months."

Jacobs went on to further explain the rationale behind removing the four classes in July. "When we cut them out, one of the things we said is that if we can't make those classes great, we're not putting them back in. One of the careers, we just couldn't get great. We're not going to put it in just so we can go, 'See guys, we put it back in.' If it's not great, it doesn't belong in the game. There will still be four going back in, it just won't be necessarily the same four."

I found this while skimming through the news section. Looks like they are reporting on an interview that Mark Jacobs had with EuroGamer. So besides adding the Black Guard and Knight of the Blazing Sun.

Actually upon further inspection - looking over EuroGamer's http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=263782 interview - it appears they won't be taking out a current class, but rather Hammerer or Choppa will be axed for good. The one that is picked, is obviously in game, while the remaining one is axed for good.

Which do you think it will be? I'm praying for Choppa, though I suspect either will be a good addition to the game as a whole.

Well they aren't removing a career that's currently implemented as..well..that'd piss off alot of people and would be a VERY poor decision on their part.

The two careers that are on the chopping block are the Choppa (no pun intended) and the Hammerer, the two Melee DPS careers for the Orcs and the Dwarves.

Yeah I should have read the original interview - the way GameSpot worded it made it confusing. I posted the EuroGamer interview as well now, so the whole thing can be read.

I think the article says they are going to replace the Choppa or the Hammerer with another class, not that they will take one of the current classes out of the game.

Regardless...interesting. Very interesting.

This kind of stuff REALLY should have been let loose to the sites like us that have always supported them. Why we have to scrounge around a site like eurogamer when it effects the entire worldwide W.A.R. population is beyond me, but here it is :

One of the four classes yet to be included in Warhammer Online is set to be cut from the game entirely, according to Mythic's boss, Mark Jacobs.

Last week, the developer announced it would be reinstating two of the four careers it cut form the game back in July. Later this year, WAR players will get a chance to play as the Empire's Knight of the Blazing Sun on the Order side, and the Dark Elf Black Guard on the Destruction side.

Of the two remaining originally planned careers, the Dwarf Hammerer and Greenskin Choppa, one is set to return to the game at a later date, but the other will be replaced by an as-yet unknown class.

"Well, one of them we hope to put back in," Mark Jacobs told Eurogamer and GamesIndustry.biz when he spoke to us last week.

"I can't tell you which yet, that's a surprise. We're probably going to be replacing one and putting in another class in its place. But we'll be talking about that in a few months."

Apparently Mythic has high standards for what it wants to put into the game, and one of the classes didn't make the grade.

"When we cut them out, one of the things we said is that if we can't make those classes great we're not putting them back in, and one of the careers we just couldn't get great," he explained.

"We're not going to put it in just so we can go 'see guys, we put it back in'. If it's not great, it doesn't belong in the game."

Jacobs assured fans: "There will still be four going back in, it just wont be necessarily the same four."

It can go either way. Choppa gets axed while the Dwarfs get stronger with a knockdown knockback based damage dealer that the Hammerer was, or keeping the Choppa and throwing in a Slayer, thus skyrocketting the Dwarfen / Order population even more.
